SBCC is second in WSC Supremacy

SBCC is second in the 2013-14 Western State Conference Supremacy standings after the fall sports season.

The Vaqueros won WSC titles in women’s golf and women’s volleyball as well as a state championship in women’s golf. They have 40 points, trailing only Canyons (46.5). L.A. Pierce is third with 28 points and Citrus is fourth with 26.5. Ventura, last year’s Supremacy winner, is tied for sixth with 23 points.

Santa Barbara’s football team, which competes in the Southern Cal Football Association, had its best record in 22 years (7-3) and finished third in the American Pacific Conference. Men’s soccer was second place in the WSC while women’s soccer and men’s cross country were third.

The Vaqueros had five WSC Players of the Year for the first time ever in a fall season. The winners were Fanny Johansson (women’s golf), Adam Colton (men’s soccer), Brandie Harris (women’s soccer), Ian Roberts (men’s cross country) and Eryn Young (women’s volleyball).

The Supremacy award is given annually to the athletic department with the best overall combined programs, with points awarded in 20 sports. Last year, the scoring format changed with each school’s point total being divided by the number of sports if offers for an average total score.
